CALLING ALL SISTERS
Calling All Sisters is a pet project I'd like to elevate. It's the story of one of the biggest, baddest and most promising HBCU sisterhood organizations from the height of the Black Power Movement: Swing Phi Swing.
Reaching its peak in the late 70s, Swing grew so quickly, it couldn't keep up. The sisterhood began to die out by the 80s, with many sisters believing the organization to be dead. It was not.
This film is about my search for my long lost sisters in Swing and analysis of the future of the organization.
NATURAL in THE CITY
This project was cut short, but I learned so much! Here's a quick description:
Go behind the scenes of a blossoming hair salon as it struggles to challenge stereotypes in both the hair and business world. Takeisha Berry-Brooks has defied the odds of her background to build a thriving enterprise and movement right from her hometown, which at times can be culturally suffocating. Follow her as she sets her sights on hair shows and expansions across the Mid-South. Meet her mother, who believed in her from the very beginning. And meet her staff, who may have their own ideas about how to run the show and get ahead.
the open channel
The Open Channel is my thesis documentary film, part of my fulfillment for my Masters in Journalism at the University of Arkansas. Summary:
The Open Channel is an introduction into this world of homemade television where content is uncensored, idiosyncratic and the residents have a lot to say. Filmmaker Niketa Reed shares clips from long-standing shows and historical programming that has aired at the station along with interviews from seven community producers from different walks of life.
For three decades and counting, the city of Fayetteville, Arkansas has provided a channel for its citizens to produce television shows or just speak their minds. The public access television station, a free speech platform in decline, has since garnered a reputation of airing amateurish, eccentric programming on grainy tape versus representing free speech. But in this city, it refuses to die.

RAGE AND THE ROAD
This may be premature, but I want to put it out into the universe while it's in development. Rage and the Road is my way of dealing with daily road rage, with reflection on valuable lessons I've gathered from a life of driving.
WRITING AS YOU READ THIS. I PROMISE!
